Last Christmas I set out to DIY a more “modern” wreath for our house – one without glitter, ornaments, etc. and also on the CHEAP! :) Using a 16″ wreath frame ($2.99) from Hobby Lobby, greenery garland of any choice (mine was less than $10 – plus make sure to use the 40% coupon online!), floral wire, and ribbon (if desired), it only took me about 15 minutes to make this wreath.
To make the wreath, take your wired wreath frame like this…
And then attach a piece of garland to the frame using floral wire.
I don’t have any pictures of actually attaching the garland because this project was done before Becky and I decided to start the blog! However, it should be fairly easy! On a flat surface, place the garland on top of the frame in the form that you want it to look like. Then twist thin floral wire around the wreath frame to ensure the garland is secure. I would attach the garland to the frame in at least six places (for a 16″ wreath) so that the form comes out circular. You can do more if you’d like though!
Here is a picture of how I hung the wreath last year. I just used some burlap chevron ribbon and then hung it above my mirror using a nail.
This year I decided to add an over-sized bow to the wreath. I used a metal door wreath hanger to hang the wreath from the mirror so that I didn’t make any more holes in my wall!
Good luck if you make this quick and simple wreath! Let us know if you have any questions or feel free to comment and share what you’ve done! We will have more DIY Christmas wreath ideas coming this month so stay tuned!
