That is a reason to sing marlowe laneEaster of 2014 I was asked by a dear friend to sing ‘A Reason to Sing’ by All Sons and Daughters. I had never heard the song but fell in love with the lyrics, because they were real, raw and vulnerable.

“Reason To Sing” – All Sons and Daughters

When the pieces seem too shattered
To gather off the floor
And all that really matters
Is that I can’t feel You anymore
Is that I don’t feel You anymore

I need a reason to sing
I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
And I need a reason to sing

When I’m overcome by fear
And I hate everything I know
If this waiting lasts forever
I’m afraid I might let go
I’m afraid I might let go

‘Cause I need a reason to sing
‘Cause I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
And I need a reason to sing

Will there be a victory?
Will You sing it over me now?
Your peace is the melody
Will You sing it over me now?

‘Cause I need a reason to sing
I need a reason to sing
I need to know that You’re still holding
The whole world in Your hands
And that is a reason to sing

Really, it is all about the last line…

There are times in our lives where we look around and wonder where God is. We see disaster, illness, pain and suffering all around and wonder if He forgot to show up in the most dire moments. Sometimes in our most dire moments.

2015 was a very hard and beautiful year for our family. We look back and see how God so perfectly saved us and directed our path to healing and restoration. There were times where we were holding tightly to the side of the ship in the storm praying he would calm the sea as water poured in on all sides. But…

Sometimes it is in the storm that you remember how big God is and how small we really are. Sometimes it is in the storm that you learn to trust Him deeper than ever before. Sometimes it is through a storm that you see miracles come to life out of moments that had seemed hopeless. Sometimes in the darkest moments, you see the brightest light.

Sometimes in the darkest moments you see the brightest light.

Whatever your storm, with Christ, there is ALWAYS hope

Keep Believing

I hand-stamped this necklace as a gift to my sweet friend as a reminder of where we have both been and where Christ has beautifully brought our families this past year. She told me, as I gave it to her, that the songbird on the front is so symbolic to her because birds always start singing songs of praise before the sun even rises each day.

They sing songs of praise while they are still in the dark.

That is beautiful…

… and that is a reason to sing.

Supplies:

  • Metal Stamping Plates
  • Metal Alphabet Stamp Set
  • Leather
  • Charm Accessories
  • Metal Alphabet Stamp Set
  • Hammer

Step 1: Find a solid, even surface area to stamp the metal plates and leather on. You can use a wood block or buy a steel block to hammer on, but I found my front concrete step worked perfectly and was free.  IMG_9374

Step 2: Organize the stamp letters you will be using so they are easy to find when you start stamping. This is the stamp set I bought at Hobby Lobby, in case you are wondering what they look like when you go to buy them. IMG_9424

Step 3: Hold each stamp letter firmly in place on the metal plate (forgot to take a picture of the metal one, but it looks like this:). The letter will look backwards when you look at it facing you, but when you place it on the metal or leather it will stamp out in the correct direction. Hammer firmly 1-3 times to ensure the letter has branded into the metal. Do not over hammer as the letter may move and cause shifting in your letter. Hammering the hand stamped necklaceStep 4: Repeat.

Step 5: I stamped on the leather Psalm 148. I didn’t even know what verse it was, but it kept coming to mind and when I went to read it, it was a psalm about praising God… EVERY single line…Psalms 148Note***When you stamp the leather, you should just hammer it one time or the metal stamp may go through the soft leather.

Step 6: I bought little safety-pin looking necklace brackets at Hobby Lobby which made it easy to simply slip the leather, metal plate and two charms on. Then I simply hooked it onto a 30-inch chain I bought at Hobby Lobby as well.

Hanging Necklace

It was so easy to make and the possibilities of what you can create are endless! I liked the poetic reminder of the songbird so much that I ended up making myself one too:)

Necklace marlowe laneI hope you have a wonderful New Year! Whatever 2015 was, I pray that you will remember there is definitely a reason to sing in 2016:)

Much love!
