The countdown has begun on the arrival of Baby J –> 27 days to go! We are so ready for him to be here!  We will be moving back into our previous house (gotta love the ‘burbs’!) in less than 3 months so I’m not planning on doing much decorating for the nursery in our current house.  But that hasn’t stopped me from getting a game plan for the nursery once we are back in the bigger house!

As I’ve been trying to put together some ideas for our new little guy’s room, I realized that I am not a huge fan of super child-ish decor.  I asked Shawn whether he thought I was making the nursery too ‘grown-up’ and he said “you might as well enjoy decorating his room how you want for the next few years since eventually he is going to want Ninja Turtles or Starwars, or something!”  So that is my motto – until Baby J can tell me what he wants, I get to decorate his room how I want! :)

This is my mood board so far for his room.  I decided to splurge on the crib since we were using hand-me-down furniture in the rest of the room.   I also wanted to incorporate navy, white, and grey throughout the room and do subtle splashes of yellow and teal to match the crib sheets I found on Etsy.

My plan is to do a lot of DIY for the wall decor. I’m going to buy vinyl wall decal paper in different colors and cut out triangles to put on the wall near the bookshelves.  I’m also planning on creating wall hooks on reclaimed wood pallets and making hanging bookshelves. The light fixture in the room right now is an outdated gold flush mount fixture and I am SO excited to upgrade it to a more industrial, fun fixture! I’m still trying to decide on wall color and whether to do wainscoting on the lower half of the wall.  Guess it will depend on how much time and whether Shawn wants to assist too! :)

Here is a list of the items I found for the nursery so far:

  • Crib – Restoration Hardware ‘Callum’ Crib (got it on sale!)
  • Light Fixture – Amazon
  • Diaper changing table – Received from my sister and we chalk painted it by mixing Annie Sloan Old White and Pure White
  • ABC Mirror – At Home store
  • Crib Linens – Sheets from Etsy and crib skirt and bumper from PB Kids in Navy
  • Navy and White Striped Rug – Nordstrom Rack (if you can believe it!) for $39!
  • DIY bookshelves, wall hooks, wall decals

I’m looking forward to pulling this all together once we move! I will post the reveal as soon as it is finished!
